Q: Why is no daily stock price data (other than some historical and manufactured test data) supplied with cpFinder?

A: This data is available from specialist suppliers; contacts to these suppliers are typically available from stock exchanges around the world. An excellent source of data for US, Australian, Asian and Futures markets is TXL Data

Q: cpFinder does not provide chart indicators such as moving averages, MACD and Bollinger bands etc.  Why?

A: cpFinder concentrates on searching for technical patterns (triangles, head and shoulders etc) and does not attempt to replicate the facilities of the many well-known charting packages that are available.  So cpFinder is a tool that should be used to provide a further source of information to support trading decisions that is not available in charting packages.

Q: Is cpFinder a plug-in for a charting package such as MetaStock?

A: No.  It is a stand-alone application that is executed separately from your charting package.

Q: What data formats does cpFinder support?

A: Currently cpFinder supports daily-based security data (containing date, open, high, low, close and volume fields) in text and MetaStock formats.  It is planned to support other common formats in future product releases.

Q: Can I change the pattern detection parameters used by cpFinder?

A: Not in the standard version of cpFinder which has its parameters internally tuned to the most appropriate values for pattern detection.  Research is progressing at Kariba Investments aimed at developing a professional version of cpFinder that can support user setting of pattern parameters.

Q: My 30-day trial period has expired.  Can I renew the trial period?

A: The protection mechanism used by cpFinder does not allow you to renew a trial period on a given computer.  It also does not allow you to uninstall and reinstall a trial version on a given computer.  However, you can validly install the trial version on a different computer that has not previously had cpFinder installed on it.

Q: I have evaluated a trial version of cpFinder and now wish to purchase it.  What do I do?

A: At the end of the trial period (or if you press the ENTER key immediately after launching a non-expired trial version of cpFinder) the License Configuration screen is displayed.  This screen allows you to obtain the Site Code and describes how to use this code to obtain your Site Key by sending your purchase details to your cpFinder software provider.  The Site Key provided authorises your software when you enter it into the Site Key box of the License Configuration screen.

Q: I want to move my cpFinder executable to a different directory on my computer.  Can I do this?

A: Yes you can, but you need to move your license as well.  So the process is as follows:

  • Install cpFinder into the new (ie target) directory. [Do NOT uninstall the original version in the source directory.]
  • Launch the original version of cpFinder and bring up the License Configuration screen by immediately pressing the ENTER key after launch.
  • Execute the Transfer To Directory command and specify the new directory for the license.
  • Terminate the program by exiting the License Configuration screen.
You can now launch cpFinder from the new directory.  You can also now delete the old (source) cpFinder directory and its files.  [Do not use uninstall for this as you would then remove cpFinder from its new location.]

Q: I want to move cpFinder to a different computer.  How do I do this?

A: This can be done by transferring your license from original (source) computer (PC1) to the new (target) computer (PC2) using a floppy disk.  The process is as follows:
  • Install cpFinder on PC2 and insert a floppy disk into the floppy drive. cpFinder is unlicensed on PC2 at this stage.
  • Launch cpFinder on this computer (ie PC2) and bring up the License Configuration screen by immediately pressing the ENTER key after launch. Select the Transfer into Computer command and supply the floppy disk path. This floppy is now primed to transfer your license to PC2.
  • Remove the floppy disk from PC2 and insert it into PC1.
  • Launch cpFinder on the source computer (ie PC1) and bring up the License Configuration screen by immediately pressing the ENTER key after launch. Select the Transfer Out of Computer command and supply the floppy disk path. License information is now placed on the floppy disk.
  • Remove the floppy disk from PC1 and return it to PC2.
  • Click Transfer into Computer on PC2 to complete the transfer. You can now uninstall cpFinder on PC1 and delete the intermediate license transfer files from the floppy disk.

Q: Are network or multi-user licenses available for cpFinder?

A: cpFinder is normally available under a single-user license.  Please contact Kariba Investments if you require a multi-user or network license.

Q: What happens if we have a hard disk failure that invalidates our cpFinder license?

A: We provide a new license, no questions asked.

Q: Is cpFinder affected by disk compression and defragmentation programs?

A:
Not in general.  However, certain flags need to be set if you are using Norton Utilities Speed Disk as follows:

1. Open Speed Disk and choose File, Options, Customize and Unmovable Files.
2. Specify that the *.ENT, *.RST, *.Key and *.4ls files cannot be moved.

Q: Does cpFinder work if installed and authorized on removable hard drives?

A: Yes, but only for Iomega Zip and Jaz drives.  It does not support removable hard drives from other manufacturers.

Q: Can I authorize cpFinder for my PC but run cpFinder from the CD ROM drive?

A: No. The current version of cpFinder requires the executable to be run from the hard disk.
